What is SwimMark?
SwimMark replaces the old Swim21 which was the first time swimming clubs came under the microscope. This was to eliminate people getting into the sport for the wrong reasons and to make sure all people looking after children were vetted to eliminate paedophiles entering the sport.
SwimMark covers sixteen pieces of evidence that are needed to gain accreditation, these make sure all teachers have attended a child protection course, all teachers have had a check from the disbarring service were all police records are checked to make sure no one with a criminal record is allowed near our children.
It also checks on the governance of the club to make sure no single person can appropriate club funds, and each financial year they are perused by a qualified accountant. It also gives an opportunity for teachers to attend courses some of which cost £1,000 and are out of financial reach to most people.
